Sophie Langdon is one of Britain's leading violinists. She gained a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with David Martin and Carmel Kaine. Further studies at the Juilliard School, New York and the Curtis Institute, Philadelphia, were followed by a year of solo studies at the Guildhall with Gyorgy Pauk.

She has appeared as soloist with many major orchestras: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and the Berlin Radio Orchestra. She broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio 3, has appeared at most of Britain's music festivals, and is a familiar figure on London's concert platforms. Her Chandos CD recording  of the Ethel Smyth Concerto for violin and horn, with the BBC Philharmonic, horn player Richard Watkins and conductor Odaline de la Martinez, was released to critical acclaim. Two volumes of Spohr violin and harp music with harpist Hugh Webb are available on the Naxos label, and the Fourth Dimension string quartet have recorded Goldmark on ASV.

Recognized as a violinist and musician of great versatility, Sophie is active in many different spheres: as chamber player, soloist and recitalist, orchestral leader and director, and teacher.  She is currently leader of the Fourth Dimension string quartet, the Bath Philharmonia and the London Jazz Sinfonia. Sophie Langdon has been a professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music for over twenty years and Head of Strings at Cranleigh School until 2010 – her past students are active in Britain, Europe and Asia in professional orchestras, and also as soloists, chamber players and teachers.
