Audition Masterclass: October 2011
In 2011 we will be holding an Audition Masterclass in addition to the annual Farnham Competitive Music Festival classes and concert
The purpose of the day is to give students who are preparing for conservatoire auditions in 2011 the following opportunities:
- to learn more about performance skills and presentation at auditions
- to ask questions about auditions
- to work on some of the pieces they are preparing for their auditions in a small masterclass with a distinguished professor
Details of the day
The audition masterclass day will be held at Frensham Heights School, Rowledge, Surrey GU10 4EA on Saturday 29th October 2011.
The morning session will be held in the Ballroom. Here, Frank Wibaut will run a workshop for all participants which will cover general aspects of performance and presentation at auditions. There will be time for participants to ask questions and we hope to invite a first year undergraduate from one of the music colleges to answer some questions drawing on their recent experience of the audition process.
In the afternoon there will be four separate masterclasses to work on audition pieces:
- Piano with Frank Wibaut will be held in the Performing Arts Centre using the Bosendorfer grand piano
- Strings with Sophie Langdon will be held in the Drawing Room (an accompanist will be provided)
- Voice with Anne Howells will be held in the Ballroom (an accompanist will be provided)
- Woodwind and Brass with Philippa Davies will be held in the Music School (an accompanist will be provided)
Each student will be given approximately 30 minutes of individual attention, observed by other participants and an audience.
The day will conclude with tea and cakes for everyone in the Main House Lounge.
Application
- There will be 20 places available to participate, 5 in each of the four sections
- There will be no charge for the day
- Priority will be given to early applications
- Students who would like to attend as observers will be welcome
